I work as a freelancer and wouldn’t suggest it to anyone!
I still made more than $1k-2k in one year as a 19-year-old boy…
I started earning money on my own by freelancing.
However, I don’t suggest doing it full-time.
Here are some suggestions that might assist you with your career.
Storyline
I was broke, but how can a 17-year-old boy earn some money?
It was 2020, and then there was a COVID lockdown.
I expended the first few weeks watching Netflix (probably everyone)
But after a few days, I met “God’s Call” to stop wasting my time on entertainment.
I began to learn Web Development, and after 6–7 months of building projects, I am confident that I can do some good projects for others while earning some money.
The first option was to apply for full-time jobs. However, how can a company hire a guy who is only 18 and has no previous “experience”?
For me, freelancing was the only option
I applied for freelance jobs on Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer, and other sites.
After a few weeks of rejection, I received a $10 offer.
I was pleased and told my friends that I had done it (was having a feeling of getting 1 Million Dollars lol)
Just after that, I received orders of $10, $50, and up to $300.
After that, I was feeling frustrated by working on projects for lower pay and having problems.
I was doing the same thing, and nothing had changed.
Project conception -> Get paid and stay looping
In the end, I decided that freelancing was not for me.
Keeping this in mind, I decided to take on projects that would benefit me. One of them was the opportunity to learn something new.
Why don’t I practice full-time freelance work?
This idea may be novel and counterintuitive to you.
But it isn’t for me.
“Be Your Own Boss” is the worst thought I had about freelancing.
Your client is your boss.
You’ll say you can switch clients. That is equal to leaving one company for another.
As a Freelancer, you must:
1. Find Clients
2. The client may be non-technical as well as provide only a general idea.
3. Keep records of everything.
4. You may need to work 16 hours a day on occasion.
You may now and then get a good client, but this will not always be the situation.
As a Freelancer, I had the worst experience.
I worked for a client for more than three months before he suddenly left without paying, stating that he is no longer interested in working.
I hope God (if he exists) will look after him.
Why is having a full-time job ideal?
To be exact, I have never had a full-time role. Even so, there are some advantages to working for a company.
Here are some specifics:
1. We have the Task
2. We do the work and are paid for it.
3. Steady earnings
One of the possible problems is the salary. Some businesses underpay their workers.
But that’s another story.
Some companies pay well and treat their employees well, and that is what I am looking for.
Money may not be the only factor we should think about. We demand a healthy working environment.
When my client left, I was frustrated and depressed.
Some clients were extremely helpful and kindhearted.
If you want to work as a full-time freelancer, here are some good tips:
1. Look for contract-based freelance jobs ( 3 months,6, or 12)
2. Have a good relationship with and understanding of the client
3. Don’t just accept the job via text; have at least one meeting ( virtual)
As a pre-final college student who cannot accept a full-time position, I spend at least three hours per day on freelance work (Remote Role, Yes a 100 times)
I can’t just quit college because:
1. There are no fees.
2. In India, get a degree or face endless questions from relatives.
You should give it a shot. The best teacher is experienced.
Freelancing can be 10 times better than a fixed role in some situations.
That’s all.
These are my own words, and I stand by them. You are free to agree, disagree, or try and educate me.
